Golden Youth
BAND: Golden Youth | INTERVIEWER: Brian Morrissette | DATE: February 5th, 2012
(Brian) So for the record, with whom do I have the pleasure of speaking?
(Stephanie) Hello! You are speaking with Stephanie!
(Brian) And you play in a band called Golden Youth, right? What do you play or do in the band?
(Stephanie) Yes I do! I sing, play the piano, write lyrics and melodies, and provide comic relief....
(Brian) Who else plays in the band and what do they play?
(Stephanie) Well there's Jerame, who plays guitar, does programming and writes all of the epic orchestral pieces you hear in the background! And then there's Jerry, who also plays guitar, sings background vocals, and is my partner in crime when it comes to interpretive dancing during long practices! I love my bandmates.
(Brian) What is the story behind how the band formed?
(Stephanie) We are three best friends who love music and decided [to] start writing together! It's been a crazy, fun adventure so far and I can't wait to see what God has in store for us!
(Brian) Is there any reason for the name Golden Youth?
(Stephanie) Oh my goodness, we went through so many names before choosing this one! I've always loved the idea of being forever young, so it's basically my mind's spin off of that!
(Brian) How would you describe the music Golden Youth plays? I personally was a little confused with post-pop, but I was intrigued.
(Stephanie) I would describe our music as more of an indie alternative sound. The post-pop started out as a joke because of the difference in our music backgrounds! I used to play strictly pop music and the boys were in post rock bands, so we kind of made our own genre!
(Brian) Who are Golden Youth's biggest inspirations?
(Stephanie) SIGUR ROS! We love that band! They put their hearts and souls into everything they write and it really shows through their music. We also listen to Florence and the Machine, Coldplay, Stars, M83, plus many, many more!
(Brian) I ask almost everybody this question; it's because it always gets a cool answer. Would you call your band Christian or Christians-in-a-band? Why?
(Stephanie) Christians in a band for sure! We wanted to write music that we could play in a church or in a bar, music that everyone could listen to and want to share with their friends! I hope that people will be able to see a difference in our actions and see Christ through us in that way!
(Brian) Golden Youth just released an EP. What is the concepts behind some of the songs on it?
(Stephanie) We did! When I write songs, I get most of my inspiration from books and movies. Very rarely will I write about a personal situation. I guess I'm just not brave enough to handle the possible outcome of that! The feeling I wanted to come across on this EP was that of freedom and adventure. I wrote most of the songs while on trips, and I think the word "wanderlust" was [a] goal for this EP! I hope people will add some of our songs to their next roadtrip playlist!
(Brian) My Favorite track off of the album is “Seven Seas” and I was wondering what is your personal favorite track? Why?
(Stephanie) Awesome! That is my favorite as well! It's the first song I wrote for this project, and there's just something about it that makes it special to me.
(Brian) I really enjoyed Golden Youth - EP and thought it was original and witty. So I must ask, where can our readers pick up the EP? I think this is a must-have for fans of Kye Kye, Future of Forestry, and Josiah James.
(Stephanie) Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! As of right now it is available on Itunes or at one of our shows! We are working on getting our online store up and running, so you'll be able to pick it up there soon (along with some other exciting merch!).
(Brian) Is there a possible full-length or another EP in the works?
(Stephanie) Yes! I'm so excited to be writing again for the full-length! I have so many ideas for this album, and I'm hopefully going to be able to co-write some of the songs with a few amazing people, so stay tuned for that! I plan on playing music for a long time, so hopefully this will be the first of many albums from Golden Youth!
(Brian) Are their any upcoming tours or shows you would like the share with your fans and our readers.
(Stephanie) Woo! We are booking like crazy right now, so be sure to check out our Facebook page to find out where we'll be! Also we're hoping to do some touring this summer, so keep your fingers crossed!
(Brian) What can we be praying for foryou guys.
(Stephanie) I would love it if you could pray for all the decisions we will be making this year! Things can get kinda crazy, and I just want us to be able to stay focused on God and find his direction for the band!
(Brian) Is there anything else you would like to say?
(Stephanie) I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone at ChristCore for being so awesome and helping us get our music out there! You guys are so great! Also thank you to everyone who has supported us in one way or another through this whole process. We love our fans and we can't wait to start making more music for you guys!
